Biography

Charles was born about 1878.

United States Census, 1880 - lists the family name as "Beetz". John and Wilhelmina lived in Wheatfield, New York. Children listed are: Charles age 2 and Maggie age 8 months.

New York State Census, 1892 - John and Minnie lived in Wheatfield Town, Niagra County, New York. Ages 37 and 39. Children listed are: Chas H. age 14, Maggie age 12, Merna age 8, John age 3.

Possible first marriage to Mabel Bartnic (or Barknic) in Middleton, WI on June 11, 1904. Her parents were John Bartnic and Mary Staat.

Wisconsin State Census 1905 lists Charles and Wife Mabel. Ages 26 and 20. Daughter Carrie, 1 month. He is listed as a "laborer".

United States Census 1910 lists Charles and wife Mable in Tonawanda, NY. Ages 32 and 25. Children: Carrie age 4 and Lily age 1. They were married 5 years. He is listed as a laborer in lumber yard. They lived at 186 Magana (sp) St, Tonawanda, New York.

Family Search.org has a wedding date to Alice Maud, however no link to document.

By 1918 his WWI draft application shows he was married to Alice Maud.

1920 Census list Charles as head of household, Alice M as wife. Children: Hazel V. - approx. 1906, Eileen - approx. 1907, Howard S. - approx. 1910, Mildred F. - approx. 1915, Woodrow K. - approx. 1916, Charles, Jr. - approx. 1917, and Gladys V. - approx. 1918. Hazel was born in Michigan, the other children were born in New York.

Is Carrie (Caroline) - I don't think so, but what about Eva and Hazel the same person?

Per the 1920 Census: They lived at 17 Seymour, Tonawanda, New York. He is listed as a "carpenter".

Per the 1930 Census: They lived at 286 Texas, St. Paul, Minnesota. He is listed as a "shingle dipper".

Per the 1940 Census: They lived at 206 Fenton, St. Paul, Minnesota. Charles, Howard, Woodrow and Charles Jr. were listed as "junk peddler".

April 27, 1942, he enlisted in the Army.
