Biography

Joseph Eldred BISHOP was born in 1864 in Beechworth, Colony of Victoria[1]. He was the son of Joseph Eldred BISHOP and Mary Ann CRONAN.

Alice PALK and Joseph Eldred BISHOP were married in 1893 in Colony of Victoria[2].

Their children included:

Ernest Eldred BISHOP 1894-1917
Joseph Lewis BISHOP 1896-1917
Frank Hansford BISHOP 1899-1986
Alice Louise BISHOP 1901-1984

He passed away on 1 May 1930 in Mosman, New South Wales, Australia[3] and was buried at the Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens and Crematorium[4].

MR. J. E. BISHOP.
Mr. Joseph Eldred Bishop, a keen student of social, Industrial, and political questions, died at Mosman yesterday.
Born at Beechworth, Victoria, in 1864, Mr Bishop came to Sydney as a newspaper representative in 1892 Later he became first secretary, and then, in turn, manager and proprietor of West's Wheel Works He was a member of the Royal Society of Now South Wales, and at one period chairman of the industrial section He was also a foundation member and a vice-president of the Economic Society of New South Wales At the Hobart Congress of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science he read a paper before the economic section He contributed articles to the Press for many years He was a member of the consultative council of the Nationalists' Association, and the employers' representative upon the Coachmakers Conciliation Committee, a past president of the Master Body, Coach, and Waggon Builders' Federation of Australia, and president of the motor body building section of the Motor Traders' Association At Mosman, Mr Bishop took an active Interest in local movements He was associated with the Mosman Methodist Church, the Parents and Citizens' Association, and was secretary to the movement which carried out the erection of the war memorial in Mosman Park.
Mr Bishop leaves a widow, a daughter, Alice, and a son, Mr Frank Bishop, B A. Two other sons. Lieutenant E E Bishop (BEF), and Gunner J. L Bishop (AIF.), were killed In France in 1917.
The funeral will take place in the Northern Suburbs Cemetery this afternoon.
