Charlotte Eliza Black was born about January 21, 1843 in River Philip, Cumberland, Nova Scotia, daughter of William Donkin Black (1793–1847) and Olivia Maria Freeman (~1800–1891).[1]
Her siblings were:

- Hibbert Crane Black (1832–1905)
Charlotte (19) married George Derby Hewson (25) (born on October 17, 1836 in River Philip; son of Richard Hewson and Seraphina (Bent) Hewson) on July 3, 1862 in Cumberland. Their known son was Edgar Ellis Hewson (1870–1957).
Charlotte died on May 29, 1924 in Amherst, Cumberland, Canada, aged about 81. She was buried in Amherst Cemetery, Amherst, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia.[1]
