William Blackler aka Blackaller was born on 23 Jun 1848 in Exeter, Devon, England to James Blackler and Harriet (Howard) Blackler. His birth was registered in Exeter in the third quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Howard.[1]
He had an older brother also named William, who was born in 1844 and died in 1846.
In 1851 William Blackler (age 3) lived at Reeds Court, Cowick Street in St Thomas the Apostle, Exeter with his father James (36, Labourer), mother Harriet (32) and three siblings: James (9, Scholar), John (5, Scholar), and Harriett (1).[2]
William and his family immigrated to New Zealand in 1851 - they sailed aboard the ship Canterbury which departed from the East India Docks, London on 18 Jun 1851 and arrived in Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand on 18 Oct 1851: William Blackler (2), his father James (34, Agr Labourer), mother Harriet (31), and three siblings: James (9), John (5), and Harriet (1).[3]
William Blackler married Eleanor Tweedie in 1868.[4]
William Blackler of West Melton, farmer, was appointed as one of the Executors of his father's Will, dated 22 Jan 1879 - his father passed away on 14 Nov 1880.[5]
William's wife passed away in 1913.
William Blackler passed away in 1918, aged 70 years.[6]
He is buried with his wife at Heathcote Cemetery, Rutherford Street, Woolston, Christchurch: "In Memory of Eleanor Blackler. B 10 March 1850. D 30 March 1913. Also her hus. William Blackler. B 23 June 1849 [1848]. D 4 Sept 1918."[7]
