Application For Pension

BLAIR, ALLEN., Amherst Co., Va., Oct. 15, 1833: b. near Rockfish Gap (now Nelson Co.) July 8, 1754; drafted under Capt. Young Landrum, but engaged William Bowman as a substitute • in 1781, on Guilford Expedition under Capt. Young Landrum there saw Gen, Edward Stevens badly wounded. Capt. William Turner was Orderly Sergt. on this expedition; again drafted July, 1781, under Capt. John Loving & marched to Williamsburg. Capt. Turner testified he served as Sergt. and Blair as private in Capt. Landrum's Co. on the Guilford Expedition. Claim was allowed. He d. April 23, 1835. Mary Ann (Staples) Blair, soldier's widow, testified Amherst, Aug, 21, 1838, aged 76, that they were m. Dec. 22, 1778. A son, John S, Blair, was living in Lynchburg, Va., in 1838. [3]
