Additional Notes from Steve Bishop (source for removing "Moore" as his middle name Sept. 2020): I am now a member of the Blanchard Family History Society, and have been talking to a Sandra Randall, who like us has Robert Blanchard and a Brick wall as no baptism could be found. Sandra goes on to say that she went back to basics and researched every baptism for John Blanchard and Ann More who married 1786 Halton Holegate. The is no baptism for a Robert 'Moore' Blanchard, or even a Robert Blanchard. But we can definitely say that Robert is the son of John Blanchard & Ann Moore as he is mentioned if John's will (dated 1817). There are the entries for Robert in the Census where he states he was born in Holton (1861 census) which if you say Halton it can sound like Holton. What we think happened is that John and Ann Moore lived at Halton Holegate and had all their children baptised there. The first was John bp 1786 who married Jane Harrison in 1822 at East Kirkby and is mentioned in his father's will. The second child was Elizabeth bp 1787. The third was Ann bp 1788. The fourth was another John bp 1790 although there is no burial for the first John and we know he grew up to marry and in mentioned in his father's Will. So what I believe happened is that the clerk who made the entry made a mistake and confused the name of the child with the name of the father. In my experience this often happened as the clerk/vicar would not always make the entry at the time but when he had to do it for the Bishop. The fifth child Henry bp and buried 1793. The sixth child is Edward bp 1795 and married Rebecca Motley he is buried at Halton and is mentioned in his father's Will. The seventh and last child was Henry who was baptised in 1797 and married Dorcas Lammiman, he also is mentioned in his father's Will.

So we are sure that you can safely say Robert (Moore) Blanchard existed.

With regards to the middle name of Moore we agree with what we said because we can find no evidence of him using this and we don't believe it was his middle name and the reasons are as follows: 1. He is not referred to as Robert Moore in his father's Will. 2. He does not use it on the Marriage register. 3. He does not give it in any of the Census' 4. It is not given as his name on his death registration or burial.

What Sandra believes has happened is that a researcher in the past drew up a family tree with a date of baptism and the name Robert Moore Blanchard, this they passed to a lady back in the 1990's or before, she then past it to a past member of the Society who when tried to contact the author of the tree found he had passed away. So it will be difficult to trace the origins of the information now. That past member is also deceased but he did write to me back in 2000 and I have all his information. We cannot know where the originator of the information got it from or how diligent a researcher he was so we have to work with what we have.

The Name Moore attached to Roberts name was a Marker to indicate to which family he was connected to. This was possibly passed onto other members as mentioned above, who in turn took it at face value and added the name Moore in, even though we have now discounted this.

So, all in all, No actual direct evidence But the circumstantial evidence is so overwhelming that I have now added Robert to the family of John Blanchard and Ann Moore.

I have added copious notes on to my entry so it can be verified later even when I am gone. I am in the process of downloading all the Baptisms for John And Ann Blanchard's children so the evidence can be re-examined. I hope this explanation helps
