Biography

1776 Project
Captain Benjamin Blaney served with 15th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Benjamin Blaney was a captain in Col. Thomas Gardner's regiment which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775. He was also a captain in Samuel Thatcher's 1st Middlesex County Regiment of Massachusetts Militia in 1776. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Benjamin Blaney was born on July 24, 1738 in Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. His parents were Benjamin Blaney and Abigail Bucknam. [6] [7] [8] [9]

He married Hannah Osgood on November 24, 1765. [6] [7]

Together they had these children born in Malden: [6] [8]

  2. Abigail Blaney, b. Aug 16 1768, m. Rev. Samuel Sargent.[6]

He died in January 1820 in Chester, Windsor, Vermont, United States. [11] [9]

Benjamin was representative to the general court, 1778, 1779, 1780, 1783, 1787; town treasurer, 1779, 1780, 1781; and selectman and assessor, 1772-1778. [9]
