James Blatenburg was interred in California.

I, known by James, was born in 1836^[1] in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States.^[2]

James was a Civil War veteran. He served the Union as a Private in Company K, 15th Regiment, Illinois Infantry.^[3]He enlisted at 25 on 24 May 1861 in Freeport, Illinois for 3 years. He mustered in on the same date. He was born in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, was single and a joiner by trade. He mustered out on 24 May 1864 in Huntsville, Alabama at the expiration of his term of service.^[2]

He married Sarah Ann Haulman^[4] before 1866. ^[5]

James was one of the pioneer residents of Pasadena and was one of the first settlers of this place before it for the name "Pasadena." He lived in Pasadena for 30 years. He was a well-known member of Pasadena, California’s John F. Godfrey Post of the G.A.R. ^[6]

He passed away on 14 Dec 1906 ^[1]in Pasadena, California, United States.^[6] He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Altadena, California.^[6][1]

James is survived by 4 children, all residents of Pasadena: Fanny Blatenburg, Mrs. A.C. Tubbs, Mrs. J.D. Ripley, and Harry Blatenburg.^[6]
