Biography

Frieda was born 20 November 1896 in either Chippewa County or Brainerd, Minnesota. She was the biological daughter of Fred Blattner and Agnes LaFond. Her parents Friedrich Blattner and Agnes LaFond married 31 October 1893 in Brainerd, Minnesota.

Her biological father Friedrich Blattner had contracted Tuberculosis prior to her birth. Friedrich Blattner is also the biological father of Fred Joseph Blattner Walker. Friedrich Blattner was born in 1862 Switzerland based on census data. He Immigrated to the United States in 1882. America from Switzerland at age 20. His residence from 1882 to 1888 Minnesota. Resident from 1888 to 1899 Crow County, Brainard, Minnesota. Married: 31 October 1893 Crow Wing, Brainerd, Minnesota. Traveled to Switzerland September 1897 for Tuberculosis Treatment. Travel to America September 1898 and “Returns fully recovered”. Travel to Switzerland for Tuberculosis Treatment. Birth of Child: Fred Joseph Blattner 16 October 1899. Death: Switzerland 08 February 1900 at the age of 38.

Friedrich Blattner crossed the Atlantic Ocean at least 4 times. He crossed in 1882 to come to America. He must have been very ill leaving shortly after the birth of Frieda, September 1897, not returning until September 1898. Then one year later, 1899, leaving again for treatment in Switzerland. June Gertrude Walker told me “Grandad (Fred) never met or saw his father as he was already in Switzerland at the time of Grandad’s birth.” After the death of Friedrich Blattner, Agnes with the children moved into the home of her parents. Agnes had become acquainted with George Malcom Walker when they both lived in Brainerd, Minnesota. Agnes Lafond Blattner married George Malcom Walker late in 1903 in Spokane, Washington. George Malcom Walker was born 3 August 1867 in Santiago, Sherburne, Minnesota and passed away 29 May 1932 in Sandpoint, Idaho. He is Frieda Elizabeth Blattner and Fred Joseph Blattner adoptive father.

According to family members (Viola Mae Hopkins and June Hopkins) each and every male suitor that Frieda dated was never good enough to satisfy her mother Agnes LaFond Blattner Walker. Frieda's brother Fred told her "Just do what I did and marry who you want." I haven't found any evidence of Frieda marrying or having any children and that is also confirmed through oral family history.

Frieda worked for the Department of Agriculture in Washington D.C.. and I believe her occupation was secretary. The years MAYBE 1936 to 1945. She collected postage stamps and had a very fine collection. The stamps were stolen from my grandparent's house during the funeral of my grandfather Friedrich Joseph Blattner Walker.

On her death certificate her occupation is Secretary and Industry or business Department of Agriculture. In the medical segment of the death certificate the following information is provided: death occurred 17 Feb 1946 at 3:50 pm due to a coronary embolism with sudden onset. On January 24, 1946 she had a hysterectomy and on 11 Feb 1946 she had a gallbladder operation. There is only 18 days between surgeries. She passed away 6 days later. At the time of her death she had lived in the Spokane community for the last 9 months. Her body was taken to Hennsey Funeral home and burial in Sandpoint, Idaho.
