Henry was born from humble origins in the North Norfolk seaside town of Cromer in 1876[1][2] and was baptised on 2 April 1876 in Cromer, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom.[3] Henry would go on to become the most decorated lifeboatman in RNLI history.
He was raised in Cromer by his mother Ellen (Blogg) Davies and stepfather John James Davies, who was a second coxswain and fisherman. He left school at 11 to work on the family crab boat, although he never in his life learned to swim.
At 18, he joined the Cromer lifeboat crew.
"Henry joined the crew in 1894 and won the vote to become their coxswain 15 years later. He was coxswain for 38 years, until he retired in 1947.
In that time, he carried out 387 rescues and helped to save 873 lives." - "Henry Blogg - A Lifesaving Legend
"He was awarded many honours, including three Gold and four Silver Medals from the RNLI, the George Cross for general war service and a British Empire Medal. To this day, he remains the most decorated person in RNLI history." - Henry Blogg Museum
Henry married Annie Elizabeth (Brackenbury) Blogg in 1901 in Erpingham, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom.[4] They had 2 children: Henry James Blogg and Annie Blogg.
In 1941, the crew of Henry's lifeboat, the H. F. Bailey, was as follows:
