After Emil Hilmer Blom died 1902, the 5 children were left without either parents. A married couple Mr James and Annie Tully adopted the children as they had none from their marriage. James died a couple of years later. Annie Tully was affectionately known as Granny Annie. Her maiden name was Horn.

I have seemed to hit a dead end here with my Great Grandfather Emil Hilmer Blom. His death certificate says he was from Sweden. I have looked for him in Sweden , Norway and apart from me not being able to understand their language , its frustrating. I can't even find out how he landed up here in South Africa as there are no passenger lists or ship lists with his name on. My grandmother would tell us stories of Vikings with helmets and I am sure she elaborated on her stories , although we as children had very big eyes. Then watching the series Vikings, it sort of put things in place. It would be great if anyone out there had any further information regarding my great grandfather. On his wife's funeral card his full name is not on there . Just husband E.H Blom. It must have been very difficult way back then coming to a strange country where he stayed I think was mostly English and Afrikaans as the spoken language.
