Biography

Robert Blood was born on 26 April 1700 in Concord, Middlesex, Province of Massachusetts Bay, the son of Josiah and Mary (Torrey) Blood.[1][2]

He married Sarah Varnum after intentions were published in Dracut, Middlesex on 25 August 1722.[3]

In September 1735, Robert Blood, yeoman of Groton, sued Zechariah Blood of Concord. Zechariah's father, Josiah, wrote a will, dated 7 January 1728/9, with Zechariah as executor jointly with widow Mary. Mary renounced administration. Zechariah accepted on 9 Aug 1731 at Probate court in Middlesex county. Robert states that the inventory should have been, but was not, exhibited within 3 months, or by the 15 Feb 1732. In failing and refusing to do so, forfeits £5 per month for 41 months, or £205. Zechariah appealed to the next Superior court of Indicature on the last Tuesday of January next.[4]

Robert perhaps died in Stoddard, NH. He was last alive, certainly, in 1771, perhaps as late as 1774 when his son was still a "Junr."[5]

Children include:

  1. Olive (Blood) Taylor (1723-), b. 22 Jan 1723/4 Concord
  2. Jonas, b. 20 Dec 1727 Concord
  3. Robert, b. 26 Dec 1733 Groton
  4. Zacheus, b. 30 Aug (1735?) Dunstable[6]

Robert moved from Concord to Groton in 1728, he was subsequently of Hollis, NH, where his name appears on the call to the minister of 17 Jan 1742/3. His residence there was short and Dunstable became his home.[5]

On 22 Oct 1771, Robert Blood & Zacheus Blood, both of Dunstable, yeomen, for £208 sell their lands in Dunstable. The deed is signed by Robert Blood, Zacheus Blood and Sarah Blood, and one of the witnesses is Robert Blood Jr.[7]. The entire family then probably removed to Cheshire County NH, Peterborough or Stoddard most likely. Robert Jr. was of Stoddard in 1774 and of Peterborough in 1778. Zacheus had appeared as a witness concerning re-entry of forfeited lots at Newmarket NH on 18 Jul 1772, but his stay there must have been only temporary. In 1773, he sells the last of his property in Dunstable, he then being of Camden, Cheshire Co, NH (Mdlsx 74:350). His Rev War service credits him not only to Camden, but to Peterborough, Stoddard and Washington NH. It is not known that Zaccheus ever married, however it is possible that the "Zack" Blood who died in Bridgewater, VT, 10 Dec 1862 aged 90 "born NH" is a son.[5]
