Elisha Blount, son of Ambrose Blount and Joanna Clark, was born in 1759 (according to his statement in his pension file) and baptized June 19, 1763 in Norwich Township, New London, Connecticut[1]. He married Sally Davis on September 10, 1782 in Preston, New London, Connecticut. Elisha died December 25, 1835 in Lincklaen, Chenago, New York.
On 15 October 1832, Elisha Blount, aged seventy-two years and resident of Barre, New York, gave a statement for his pension application. He entered service from Norwich, Connecticut in the fall of 1778 as a militia man, a substitute for Daniel Walton. He served a term of two months under Capt. Moses Park with service at New London and Black Point. In the spring of 1779, he enlisted on the privateer Defense commanded by Capt. Smedlev for the term of six months. The ship ran into the rocks at Goshen Reef and many of the crew were lost. Immediately on returning to New London, he enlisted in the company of Capt. Jabez Fitch for a term of eight months. In September 1780, he enlisted as a substitute for Zephaniah Bliss and troops went to Goshen Point in Lyme, and he was discharged after three months. He stated he was born at Norwich in 1759. He went from Norwich to Greenbush, New York, then to Oneida County, and then to Barre where he lived for the past twelve years. Elisha was credited with thirteen months of service and was awarded a pension.[2]
Widow Sally Blunt, aged seventy-four years and resident of Lincklaen, gave a statement on 15 September 1838. She stated that Elisha had served under Capt. Hunt and that he served about thirteen months. She married Elisha on 10 September 1782 at Preston, and Elisha died on 25 December 1835. Her name before marriage was Sally Davis. In a statement made 16 September 1839, Sally reported that Pharaoh Blunt, her first-born child, was fifty-four years old, that she and her husband had thirteen other children, and nine of them were still living, and five children were deceased. There is an 1840 statement from Enoch Baker of Griswold that mentions Elisha’s younger brother Walter.
