Biography

When 'Maggie' Joy Boatman was born on March 9, 1937, in Cushing, Oklahoma, her father, John, was 26, and her mother, Katherine, was 32. She had two brothers and four sisters. She died on June 17, 2017, in Canadian, Texas, at the age of 80, and was buried there.

Maggie Joy Boatman Autrey, 80, of Canadian, went to live with Jesus on June 17, 2017.

Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, June 23, 2017, at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Matthew McCurley, pastor, and Jeff Boatman, her nephew, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Maggie was born March 9, 1937 in Cushing. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1978. Maggie whole-heartedly loved the Lord and was very close to Him. Prayer was very important in her daily life.

“Mag” was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved people and loved to make meals for people grieving or in need. She always put others before herself. There is a special place in heaven for Maggie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Leslie Boatman and Katy Novila Boatman; a sister, Wanda Kay Slaton; and an infant brother, John Boatman.

Survivors include her husband and best friend of 60 years, William Edward Autrey of Canadian; two daughters, Beverly Lucas and husband Rick of Houston, and Brenda Wolfe and husband Glen of Elk City, Oklahoma; her siblings, Helen McFarlin, Mary Nell Sterling, Bud Boatman and Dean Autrey; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.
