Yes Douglas, that's very true, however, he did use the other akas at various times in his early life but Kirkey became his surname of choice quite early on. He was Cartier at first marriage and on 1851 Census but Kirkey by 1861 Census, however, first two sons Joseph 1863 and John 1865 were baptized Cartier. Afterwards all three went on to use Kirkey only. William Kirkey is my 2nd great grandfather and his son Joseph my first. On my tree I have him as William Boisseau dit Cartier dit Kirkey. Wiki Tree chose the last of those names of it's own accord.
