Chaney Carrie Bonhart was born in June 1889 in Hinds County, Mississippi to Thomas and Fannie Bonhart (nee Thompson).
Chaney grew up with many brothers and sisters and spent most of her childhood in Mississippi.
Chaney moved to Chicago, Illinois and married Freemon Smith on April 16, 1931 in Cook County, Illinois.
Chaney died on March 11, 1950 in Cook County, Illinois.
Her nickname was "Nainie."
