Biography

Clara was born around September 1810 in the Settlement of Frindsbury (aka Frinsbury), on the opposite side of the River Medway to the City of Rochester, in Kent, England[1]. Her parents were Joseph (Bonnick) and Susanna (Wray), who married on the 27 November 1809 at the Parish Church of St. Margaret of Antioch, High Street, in the Village of Rainham, to the east of the Town of Gillingham, Rainham St. Margaret of Antioch Parish, Medway District, in Kent, England[2].

  • Banns of Marriage between Josp. Bonnick Bachelor and Susanna Wray Spinster were published Nov. 5th, 12th, 19th by me, D. Collyer, Curate. Joseph Bonnick of this Parish Bachelor and Susanna Wray of this Parish Spinster were married in this Church by Banns this Twenty Seventh Day of November in the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Nine by me, Danl. Collyer, Curate. This Marriage was solemnized between us Joseph Bonnick and the X mark of Susa. Wray in the Presence of the X mark of Elizth. Muir and Willm. Taylor[3].

She is baptized on the 7 October 1810 at the Parish Church of All Saints', Church Green, n the Settlement of Frindsbury (aka Frinsbury), on the opposite side of the River Medway to the City of Rochester, in Kent, England[4].

Marriage

Samuel (Clark) marries Clara (Bonnick) on the 19 June 1831 at the Parish Church of St. Mary, in the Village of Teynham, near the industrial Town of Sittingbourne, in the Borough of Swale in Kent, England[5].

This Marriage was solemnized between us Samuel Clark and Clara Bonnick in the Presence of John Harrison his X mark and Mary Jarrett[6].

Residence

Samuel appears with the 1841 Census living with his wife Clara (Bonnick) and children Joseph and Clara at Saunders Street, in the Town of Chatham, on the River Medway, in Kent, England[7]. By 1851, he and Clara have moved to 15 Hills Terrace, in Chatham, Kent. They live there with their children Clara, Samuel, Walter, Frederick, Emily Susannah and father-in-law, Joseph (Bonnick), who is a Superannuated Shipwright[8].

In 1861, he is still living with Clara at Hills Terrace, but now they are at number 16. They reside there with their children Clara, Walter, Frederick, Emily Susannah and Albert James (Clark)[9]. All the children have moved away with the 1871 Census and Samuel and Clara have taken in Lodgers. They are Joseph (Bennett); Joseph's wife, Hannah (Bennett) and their two children Frederick G. and John E. (Bennett). Their address is 16A Hills Terrace, in Chatham, Kent[10]. By the arrival of the 1881 Census, Samuel and Clara are living alone at 18 Hills Terrace, in the Town of Chatham, Kent[11].

Death

Clara (Bonnick) passes away between April and June 1894 in the District of Maidstone, in Kent, England. She was 84 years old at the time of her death[12].
