According to the 1901 Tunbridge census, Edith was born in Southborough, Kent daughter of James and Harriet Bonwick. Edith came from a large family, with 12 or 13 siblings. The family lost track of several of the Bonwick siblings during WW2, and at least one brother was estranged due to a family "row". Believed to have one older sister Alice. Other known siblings included: James Richard John, Sydney, Bertram, Mabel, Henrietta (Hettie), Elizabeth (Lil), and Edward (Ted). [1][2] In the 1911 Tonbridge census, she was a cook in the household of Charles and Annie Franklin. When they married, Harry arranged to have the tune "Bells across the Meadow" played on the bells of St Mary The Virgin Church as they left for their home at 16 King's Cottages, Nettlestead.
