Biography

Ann Boodle was born on 7 Feb 1856 in Whitstable, Kent, England the daughter of Benjamin Boodle and Harriett Culmer. ^[1] She was baptised on 13 Apr 1856 at All Saints church in Whitstable, Kent.^[2]

In 1861, she was living with her family in Blean, Kent.^[3] She is not shown with her parents on the 1871 Census as she probably left home when she was about 14 years old.

She met John Carley sometime around 1872. Annie and John married on 2 Jan 1875 at the registrar's office in Blean, Kent.^[4] They went on to have eight children:

• Levi John Carley 1880-1969

• Henry Stephen Carley 1883-1935
• Eli Thomas Carley 1885-1969

Her husband, John, was a journeyman blacksmith. The family moved often travelling in Sussex and Kent while John looked for work. From the births and baptisms of her children, we know that they lived in Badlesmere, Brookland and Biddenden in Kent. In 1881 the family was in Harty, Kent.^[5] Then the family went to Brightling and Ewhurst Green in Sussex.

Ann Boodle died from tuberculosis in Ewhurst Green, Sussex on 13 Jul 1887. ^[6] She was only 31. She was buried on 17 Jul 1887 at St. James the Great church in Ewhurst Green, Sussex.^[7]
