Note NI0484Janet Binkley's Notes for Mary Ann Book. 1

J.G. BINKLEY of Oklahoma City said in 1932 that Mary BOOK was Christian BINKLEYÕs 1st wife; he didnÕt know the name of the 2nd wife. Alice E. BINKLEY-HERR only knew that Christian married Mary Ann BOOK.

Walter Hursh Shaub says Mary Ann BOOK was b. in Pequea Tp. A property deed of 1 April 1879, in describing ChristianÕs Pequea Twp property that Mary Ann is buying at auction (see Land Holdings under Christian Fry BINKLEY) abutted the property of David BOOK, presumably her decÕd father or a brother [Deed Book F11-564, online p. 570].

Excerpt from an article on New Danville, Pequea Tp, shows ÒMary Ann BINKLEY (2nd wife of Christian) either sold or purchased a parcel [in New Danville area] in 1879.... Edward WILEY purchased the BINKLEY tract at a sheriff sale. Jacob B. HERR and Aaron BRENNEMAN purchased the WILEY tract with the water rights on 19 June 1891. Those water rights remain today, as there is an artesian well on a portion of what is now Cherry Hill Orchards, bordering the present land boundaries.Ó The parcel history: Jacob HEINEY / HAYMING 1777-1814 bought many acres around New Danville; Joseph McALLISTER purchased a tract from HEINEY 6 Apr 1832; Abraham WARFEL also got a parcel in 1865.

1880 census in June in Pequea Tp shows her as Mary A., age 44 = b. 1836, wife of farmer ÔChristÕ BINKLEY age 48 = b. 1832, with 10 children aged 21 to 1. Note: There is no daughter Mary nor an Annie, but there is Mary Ann (Jr.) age 20 = 1860.

Her stone at New Danville Cemetery, Pequea Tp, shows: ÒMother Mary Ann / Wife of / Christian F. BINKLEY / vorn Feb. 18, 1835 / Died May 11, 1894 [excerpt from the Bible unreadable].
