"Indian Creek is one of the head streams of Magees Creek, and got its name from being the camping-grounds of the Choctaw Indians. It was first settled by William Boon and his […] four sons: John, Richard, Frederick and Skinner Boon."[1]
"William Boone must have come into the area […] around 1819" because his son John was born 1818 in Georgia, and his last two sons, Daniel (born 1819) and Jacob (born 1822) were born in Mississippi.[2]
"IN NO CENSUS record prior to 1820 for Amite, Pike or Marion counties do we find a Boone. William Boone was first listed in Pike County in 1820. He and his wife were between 26 and 45 year [sic] of age. They had 2 sons and one daughter under 10 years of age and two sons and one daughter between 10 and 16 years of age. Since three of children were over ten but under sixteen we place the eldest at about 15, with five more children under this age. There were no children between 16 and 26, and no one in the family over 45. Even if William was 45 he would not have been born until 1775 and could not have been a soldier during that time. Because of the ages of his children, however, we have estimated that he and his wife were both about 35, with birth dates circa 1785. His wife was Penelope."[3]
"By 1840 […] the census shows living […in] the same place where William lived before is PENELOPE BOONE […] aged 50-60, so let's say 55, which would put her birth about the same as William's. I would assume that this was WILLIAM'S wife [widow]." [2]
"I HAVE RECONSTRUCTED THE FAMILY LIKE THIS: William Boone b/1785, died by 1840, married in Georgia to PENELOPE born 1785, died by 1850…"[2]
In her letter to my aunt LaNelle Helouin, Dell Clawson writes that research done by Harlon Boone has this William Boone was the son of William, a Revolutionary soldier from Burke Co. Georgia, and was married to a Rebecca Smoot/Smart. "Until he heard from me he had never heard of PENELOPE." After he reviewed Dell Clawson's research, he said Rebecca was his second wife.
"Mr. Boone states in a letter to me that William and Rebecca left Pike Co. about 1823 and moved up to SIMPSON county. Then in 1827 over to Rankin Co.,… William and Rebecca had four more children, born in Pike Co. and raised in Rankin Co.: Calvin, Martin, Allen & Elizabeth.
"Mr. Boone also states that this WILLIAM was the same as ours, that he left a wife and all those children, and moved away to live with Rebecca and later got mad and left Rebecca too. I don't see how he can come up with this, IF THERE IS NO PROOF, OR HOW HE CONNECTS WM WITH THE WILLIAM, REV. SOLDIER."[2] …
"I would be interested in knowing when and where William died. I find it hard to believe he left eleven children in 1823, with nine of them under 10 years old and went off with another woman. His wife Penelope was still alive."[2]
