Hamilton was born in 1865. He was the son of Joseph Bothwell and Julia Stropes.[1]
He married Annabel Haining in 1890.[2]

The Anaconda Standard, Saturday, March 12, 1927 H. BOTHWELL DIES AFTER OPERATION Had Been Employed for Many Years as Ironworker by A. C. M. Company.
Hamilton Bothwell, a resident of Anaconda for more than 35 years, passed away yesterday afternoon, following an operation at St. Ann's hospital. He was 60 years of age.
Mr. Bothwell, who was employed by the A. C. M. company as a construction ironworker had gone to work Wednesday when late in the afternoon he was seized with pains, the first indication of his illness. He was taken to St. Ann's hospital Thursday and underwent an operation the same day. His death followed at 3:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Hamilton Bothwell, during his many years' residence in Anaconda, acquired the friendship and deep admiration of all with whom he came into contact. He was known as a true friend and a good citizen. Fraternally he was affiliated with the local Woodmen of the World and the Ironworkers.
During the early years, he was very active in the W. O. W. lodge, and he had, for many years, been secretary of the local Ironworkers' union. He was a conscientious member and worker for the Baptist church.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and had spent the last 35 years in Anaconda, with the exception of two years, 1902-1903, when he resided at Missoula. He was employed at the A. C. M. foundry prior to his stay at Missoula and upon his return to Anaconda he secured employment as an ironworker for the company, which occupation he had since followed.
He is survived by his wife, in this city; one son, Elmer G. Bothwell, an ex-service man, who is now at a government hospital; three daughters, Miss Belle Bothwell, who is an instructor in the public schools at Spokane; Mrs. S. M. Dodd of Seattle and Mrs. Leslie Post of Sumner, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. E. McCarthy and Mrs. Bessie Gray, both of Seattle; three sisters, Mrs. Lyda Malloy of Victoria, British Columbia; Mrs. Vida Moore of Billings, Mrs. Charles Hill of Sheridan, Mont., and three brothers, John Bothwell of Ogden, Utah; Drew Bothwell of Portland, and P. A. Bothwell of College Place, Wash.
The body is being prepared for burial at the C. A. Tuttle company parlors, funeral arrangements awaiting the arrival of relatives.
