Abel Bouchard was born in 1845 in Les Éboulements, Canada East, to André Bouchard and Marie Louise Tremblay and baptized at the church of the Assumption.[1]
In 1868 at the same church, Abel married Marie Girard, daughter of Edouard Girard and Marie Josephte Tremblay.[2] By 1891, Abel and Marie had seven children.[3] They would have at least nine. That year is also the year they said they arrived in the United States.
Abel, Marie, and family settled in Fall River, Massachusetts. In 1899, Abel became a naturalized US citizen.[4] The 1900 US census finds Abel working in a yarn mill, Marie keeping house, several adult children also working in a mill, and three younger children at home (the 14-year-old daughter no longer in school).[5]
