Richard Bourke was born in 1812. He was the younger son of Richard Bourke and Elizabeth Bourke. [1]
When his father was appointed governor of New South Wales in 1831, Richard came to New South Wales as private secretary to his father. He returned to England in 1834 to study law, was called to the Bar and practised as a barrister in Dublin.
In 1844, Richard married Anne O'Grady of Kilballyowen.
He became an assistant commissioner for the Poor Law in Ireland in 1847 and was deputy-lieutenant for Limerick.
In the 1870s, Richard Bourke of Thornfield owned 948 acres in county Limerick and 418 acres in county Tipperary. Richard and Anne's great grandson, Gerard Bourke, was still resident at Thornfield in 2004.[2]
He passed away in 1904 at Thornfield, County Limerick.
