Ellen was born in 1856 in Sheepstown, BallyHale, Ireland.^[1]

When Ellen was about 19 she married John Thomas Giles on 20 July 1875 in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia. The couple had 14 children: Bridget Anne Giles, Mary Katherine Giles, Annie Giles, John Thomas Giles, Ellen Pearl Giles, William Giles, William Giles, Thomas Charles Giles, Henry Giles, Frederick Giles, Richard Giles, Sarah Jane Giles, Elsie Charlotte Giles and Arthur Giles.^[2]

Ellen died at the age of about 53 ^[3][4] on 7 August 1909 in Tipperary Flat, Mt Morgan, Queensland, Australia and was buried in Mount Morgan, Queensland, Australia.^[1][5]
