Avery Dean Boutilier — Aspotogan Published: October 30, 2019

Age 85, Aspotogan, passed away peacefully in South Shore Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 26, 2019. Born in Blandford, on June 6, 1931, he was a son of the late Glen Boutilier and Blanche (Gates). Avery is survived by his wile of 64 years, Verna (Langille); son, Edward (Vinna), Newfoundland; daughter, Ann Thompson (Merv), Dartmouth; daughter, Michele Nauss (Brad), East Chester; grandchildren, Dean Boutilier, Nicole Hache (Andre), Brady Boutilier, Amanda Thompson (Chistopher Tufts); brothers, Fred (Phyllis), Willis (Patsy); sister, Jewel Malacrida; great- grandchildren, Joshua, Mathieu, and Alix; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Ryan. Avery started his working career early in life at T.C. Gorman Construction and later with Department of Highways as a heavy duty machinery operator. Avery's work took him travelling over most roads throughout Nova Scotia in all seasons and in all weather conditions. He retired after 35 years, as a supervisor in the mechanical division of the Department of Transportation at Miller's Lake, Waverley. Avery truly enjoyed working hard his entire life and had a very strong work ethic; following retirement he found great pleasure in deep sea fishing, working in the woods, hunting, building wooden furniture and crafts, and had an undying passion for fixing old cars. Avery had "big, strong hands" but a gentle touch and was known for his generosity and good nature. His friends, neighbours, and family knew that if they "needed something" there was a "good chance" that Avery might have it, or, be able to fix it! Avery loved his Aspotogan roots and in his later years he was happiest when he could get outside to "tinker and look out the cove". Avery will be sadly missed and remembered by all. Avery was a member of All Saints Church in Bayswater and a member of Blandford Seasiders Senior's Club. The family would like to express their endless gratitude to the medical doctors, nurses and support staff of the 4th floor of South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater for making Avery's final two weeks comfortable. Your compassion will always be remembered. There will be a celebration of life held Saturday, November 2nd from 2-4 p.m. in Blandford Community Centre, 30 Fire Hall Rd., Blandford. In lieu of donations or flowers, the family simply requests, to remember Avery, by doing good deeds for other people.
