In 10 May 1777, John served in the military in Served for 2 months, 9 days in Captain Jesse Wyman's company, Colonel Josiah Whitney's Regiment. Lexington, Massachusetts Bay, British America.

In 1778, John served in the military in Served for 6 weeks in Captain Joseph B. Varnum's Company, Colonel Buttrick's Regiment. Fought in Battle of Rhode Island. Lexington, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay, United States.

In 2 April 1778, John served in the military in Served for 3 months, 2 days in Captain Daniel Harrington's Company, Colonel Jonathan Reed's Regiment Lexington, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. John's son was Philip Farington Bowman (1794 - 1869).

John died on 22 Oct 1847 in Ashburnham, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States aged 88.
