George Henry Bowman was born in Pennsylvania. He had two sons during his marriage. He died on November 25, 1832, in Manchester, Adams, Ohio, having lived a long life of 85 years.
It is probable that the George Bowman in the Brown County Census is the same as found in Adams County in the 1806 Tax List, Brown County being formed in 1817 from parts of Adams County. The history of Adams Co. Ohio says that the Bowmans came in 1797 with the Roush and Pence families to found the "Dutch Settlement". This settlement straddles the county line of Brown and Adams in modern times. The article in the book under Ambrose Bowman indicates that George came down the Ohio River from Pennsylvania in the keelboat times.
Find a Grave lists George's birth and death dates and that he was born in Virginia. However, the source for this information is unclear and there is no picture of a headstone? The Ambrose Bowman article in the History of Adams County, Ohio says that George was a native of Pennsylvania, so I'm unsure of where the Virginia birthplace comes from on the Find a Grave site. Research Notes
I have been doing some research, with little luck, but I have found that there was George Bowman born in Northampton, Pennsylvania in 1773 and died in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia in 1786. His parents were Bernard Henry Bauman and Catherine driesbach. Some records are showing him married to Elizabeth Roush in 1786 with children. This is unlikely, as George would have been 13 years old, for one thing, and another is that he could not have children, since he was dead ( see the Prather Family Tree at https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/6388595/person/-1294385433/facts; Fraley Family Tree at https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/10151915/person/649690692/facts). I personally believe that all these records are flawed regarding the marriage. I am going to adhere to the idea that George was born in Virginia and moved to Ohio as records are showing. Looking at this profile and the information that is provided and comments I have received, I have concluded that this George Bowman was not married to Elizabeth Roush. This George had two sons, Philip and Benjamin, whereas the George from VA had 2 sons, Andrew and George. For these reasons, I am removing Elizabeth as spouse and Hans Jerg Baumann and Maria Elizabeth DuBois Hite as parents, since he had different parents beingborn in Pennsylvania.
The book "A History of Adams Co. Ohio says the Roush, Pence and Bowman families came to Adams Co from PA in 1796 and founded the "Dutch Settlement" in Sprigg Twp. Pg. 847 "Alexander Roush". It is likely that these
autosomal DNA
test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:
Bowman-12849 and Bowman-806 appear to represent the same person because: Bowman-806 and Bowman-12849 appear to represent the same person and should be merged. The birthdate should be 24 March 1747.
They may be the same person but I don't have sources for the information that is different. And would like to work out how the text will read. I can't see how he died in Gallia County and need or source or I'm seeing it wrong. The death dates are also different. I'm no opposed to a merge, just want to understand what's going on here.
