Benjamin was born in 1672 in Thaxted Essex to John and Rebecca Bowtell.
In 1686 he was apprenticed for 8 years to Edward Clemens Master Taylor of London and on completion of his apprenticeship was made a Freeman in the Master Taylor's guild.
He married Cassandra sometime around 1696 (he would have completed his apprenticeship in 1694/5) and they had 7 children together.
They lived in the St Paul's/Bishopsgate/Aldersgate areas of London.
He passed away in 1743 in Aldersgate.
