William Boyce was born in about 1812. His parents are thought to be John Boyce and his wife Elizabeth Boyce of Lowestoft, Suffolk, England.
He was a sea-captain working out of Te Whanganui (or Port Underwood as the whaling station became known), a sheltered harbour in Cloudy Bay on the east coast of the Marlborough Sounds, in the northeast of New Zealand's South Island.
He married Ann Cave on 20 May 1842 in Ocean Bay, Port Underwood, Marlborough, New Zealand. They went on to have about 12 children.
William became a farmer in Motueka, on the coast of Tasman Bay, a little further west at the top of the South Island.
He passed away on 14 March 1895 was buried in Motueka Cemetery, Motueka, Tasman District, Tasman, New Zealand[1]. PLOT: Old 2-52
