Biography

Edward Boyd was born on 8 January 1829 and was baptised on 18 March 1829 at St. Margaret, Lee, Kent^[1]. He was the son of Robert Boyd and Mary Wensley.

He lived with his family in Kent, England, at the Boyd family seat, Plaistow Lodge^[2].

In the 1841 England Census Edward Boyd (aged 12) was recorded as a Pupil at St. German's Place, Kidbroke, Kent.

By 1861 he was recorded at the East Clavary Barracks in Aldershot, Surrey. Edward was aged 32 and a Captain with the Fifth R.I. Lancers.

His father Robert Boyd passed away on 23 January 1863.

Edward married Catherine Annabelle Lydia Elrington (the daughter of William Fredierck Elrington) on 28 October 1871 at the Church in the Parish of St. James, Westminster, Middlesex, by Licence^[3]. The witnesses were R. A. L. Elrington and W.R. Elrington:

They appear to have remained childless.

His mother Mary died on 3 June 1881. Edward was the Executor of her will, along with his brother Walter Boyd.

In the UK Census of 1901 Edward Boyd (aged 73 and Late Captain of the 5th Royal Lancers) was living with his wife Kate Annabell Boyd (50) at 69, Princes Gate, Kensington, London & Middlesex, England. Also in the household were five Servants and one Nurse.

Edward Boyd (aged 83 and Late Captain Army of Private Means) was recorded as a visitor in the household of Henry F Grierson (55) and his wife Gerard Grierson (46) at Knellwood Hall Albert Road Farnborough Hampshire, Farnborough, Hampshire, England in the UK Census of 1911.

He was still living at 69 Princes Gate, Kensington when he passed away on 26 January 1914^[5]. Edward was buried at Kensal Green Cemetery (Kensington And Chelsea), London^[6][7].

DEATHS.

BOYD.—On the 26th inst., at his residence 69. Prince's-gate, S.W., after a long illness, Captain Edward Boyd, of his Majesty 13th Regiment of Light Infantry and Lancers, on the Retired List, aged 88.^[8]

His Will was proved on 17 February 1914 at London to Katherine Annabelle Lydia Boyd, his widow and James Gray, Solicitor^[9]. Effects: £3,480 10s. 7d. Resworn £3,183 17s. 1d.
