Biography

Philip Mathias Boyd was a son of Henry P. Boyd and Mary E. Pitzer. He was born in Red Bud, Frederick County, Virginia in 1884. His family moved to Berkeley County, West Virginia by 1900. Philip married Florence Ethel Plotner, daughter of Benjamin Plotner and Fannie Shriver, in 1915. They had six children. Philip died in Berkeley County, West Virginia in 1970 and was buried in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg. [1]

Philip M. Boyd
Philip M. Boyd, of Hedgesville, W. Va., died at 6:30 p.m. Monday in City Hospital. He had been hospitalized for 10 days after an illness of seven years, aged 78 years.
The son of the late Henry P. Boyd and Mary E. (Pitzer) Boyd, he was born in Frederick County, Va.
He was a member of the Hedgesville Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Florence (Plotner) Boyd, Hedgesville; sons, Cleo Boyd, Martinsburg and Lyle Boyd, Hedgesville; daughters, Mrs. William Olinger, Hedgesville; Mrs. Clifford Cole, Keedyville; Mrs. Lynn Coffinbarger, Tomahawk, W. Va.; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother Elmer Boyd, Johnsontown, W. Va.; sister, Mrs. Edith B. Siler, Hagerstown.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Brown Funeral Home, Hedgesville, the Rev. Glenn Stevens and the Rev. Foster Couchman officiating. Burial will be made in Rosedale Cemetery.[14]
