Samuel served in the war of 1812 as a private in the 7th US Infantry. He enlisted at age 38 on 22 November, 1814. He was 39 when he died on 1 July 1815 in camp at Baton Rouge [1][2][3][4] of an illness contracted while in service. Burial place is an unknown mass grave. [citation needed] There is a memorial marker for him in the Leslie Cemetery, Leslie, Searcy Co, Arkansas. [1][2][3][4]
