When Mary was 20 she married John Mather on 31 October 1880 in Westhoughton, St Bartholomew, Lancashire, England. The couple had 9 children: Peter Mather, Elizabeth Mather, Isaac Mather, John Mather, Thomas Mather, Isaac Mather, William Mather, Ellen Mather and Harold Mather.[7][8]
