Biography

Harry Bradstreet died in May 1900 in Fort Maginnis, Fergus, Montana. Specifically, he died at the home of his friends and neighbors Tom and Kate Duffy, who had taken Harry and his daughters in while he was ill.

In 1883-84 Montana Taxpayers Directory- Harry(Henry) Bradstreet was living in Meagher County raising stock at Maginnis. Harry's brother or cousin possibly Williams son or just mis-spelled

(Pease bottom, Gilt Edge, Ft Maginnis were in the same region.)

In 1914 Alfred T Bradstreet filed in Fergus Co on 80, 36.88, 37.16 acres. Henry's son.

That region of Montana was rather lawless in those years. Also there was a financial "Panic" in 1893 & banks & railroads failed, including the bank in Miles City, & livestock prices fell dramatically. Plus the winter of 1893-94 was very harsh.

Harry met Stella in Montana, Ranch fails Stella moves back to New Hampshire and leaves Harry with the girls. They eventually end up with Stella when Harry died.


He married Stella M. WHITE (born abt 1874 in Vermont, died 1944 in Haverhill, Massachusetts) on 10 July 1889 in Fergus County, Montana. By 1899 they were either divorced or he was dead, because in the 1900 census Stella was living in New Hampshire with a new husband and baby.

A 1933 issue of the Billings Gazette in Montana contained an article about rodeo antiquities and mentioned a six-strand rawhide reata (some form of throw rope?) made in 1883 by "Texas" Harry Bradstreet.
