17th April 1854 - Poor Law Removal & Settlement Records for London show Rachel Storey with six children as deserted by husband, John, who went to Australia.

Rachel was classified as a Pauper living at Caledonian Road. " Rachel Story was living in Shoreditch with six of her children, Sarah Ann 13, Frederick 20, Arthur 8, twins Emily and Jane 6 years and Clara 4. Rachel had married in Battersea in 1835. In about 1838 her husband, John, rented a house at 165 Waterloo Road (Lambeth) from Mr Simmonds at Waterloo road for 30 pounds or 32 pounds a year rent plus taxes )?).

Sarah Ann was born there in 1843, Frederick in 1845, Arthur Thomas in 1847 and Emily & Jane in 1849. The family was recorded there in the 1851 Lambeth Census, with no sign of Clara (who had not been born yet). It appears that Rachel and John separated after this Census, with John living at a house in Hoxton (2 Lucan Place, Bridport Place, Hoxton) paying 30 pound a year rent. He must have lived there for about six months and then went to Australia in July 1854. Rachel lived in the Hoxton house for about another 6 months to December 1854 and during this time Clara died."
