According to Army enlistment records, L. B. was born in 1921. He is the son of Henry Breland. The 1930 Census for Madison Parish, Louisiana enumerated L. B., age 7, born in Louisiana in the household of Henry Beland and Ella L. Breland.[1]
In 1940 the family was in Gregg County, Texas where L. B. was enumerated as age 18, and lived in Raysville, Louisiana in 1935.[2]

L B Breland married Carrie Nell Smith on the 15th of January 1945 in Longview, Gregg, Texas.[5] Carrie Nell Breland died in 1994 in Gilmer, Texas.
His obituary in the Longview News-Journal recorded:
L. B. Breland Sr, 91, of Upshur County, Texas. Mr. Breland was born 25 July 1922 in Rayville, Louisiana and died 18 Jan 2014.[6]
