Biography

Emma Brereton was born before 1468-9 (est: she was aged 15 when her son David was born and he was aged 22 in 21 Henry VII [1505-6][1]).

Emma was the daughter of Humphrey Brereton of Malpas [2]and his wife, Unknown. Humphrey, from the Brereton family of Shocklach and Malpas, was the third son of Bartholomew Brereton of Grafton, the third son of Randle Brereton of Ipstones and his second wife, Katherine, the daughter of William Bulkeley of Eaton.[2]

Emma was the sister of:

  1. Anne, who was married to John Stringer of Crewe;[2]
  2. Catherine, who was married to Rawlin Warburton of Edge;[2]

Emma was married to John Dod of Edge[2] or Dodd of Egge, esq, senior, the son of David Dodd of Egge, and his wife, Anne, the daughter of Hugh Massey of Coddington, esq.[1]

Emma and her husband, John, had children:

  1. David Dodde of the Egge, esq, heir, was born circa 1483-4, aged 22 in 21 Henry VII, married Katherine, the daughter of Nicholas Manley of Poulton;[1]
  2. Richard, second son;[1]
  3. Ellen, married Henry Typper of Gloucester;[1]
  4. Magdalen, who was married to Richard Ball;[1]

Emma's husband, John, succeeded to his family estates in 1503 and after his death an Inquisition post mortem was taken in 21 Henry VII [22 August 1505- 21 August 1506].[1]
