Biography

Asenath Brevard was born on Dec 26, 1755. She died on Jun 13, 1843 in Iredell County, North Carolina.[1]

The marriage bond for Asenath and James states the bondsman was a Joseph Dickson and the witness was a Ad Osborn. Ad was Adlai Osborn, son of Alexander Osborn and Agnes McWhorter.[2]

Per the will of her husband James Houston, she and James had eleven children: Edward, Richard, Joel, George, James, William, Sarah, Asenath, Lydia, Elly and Mary.[3]

Asenath is buried in Centre Presbyterian Church cemetery, Mooresville, Iredell County, NC. The inscription on her tombstone reads[4]:

"To the memory of Asenath Houston, relict of Capt James Houston, Dr. who died 13th June A.D. 1843, in the 88th year of her age. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church from an early age--was the mother of twelve children - lived much respected, and died due-- (rest unreadable)"
