John Elmer was born in 1925. John Elmer Brewer ... He passed away in 1967 from a heart attack.

Military Service

Master Sergeant John E. Brewer was inducted into the Army at Camp Blanding, Florida, on September 1, 1945, and took Basic Combat Training at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. Upon successfully completing this training he served in Europe, and a year later in 1946 he became a personnel sergeant connected with the Bed Navheim Military Post at Bad Navheim, Germany. This assignment lasted until May of 1951 when Sergeant Brewer was ordered to join the 87th Regiment, 10th Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. In Octobert of 1952 Sergeant Brewer was sent to Europe again, and found work as an assignment N.C.O. at USAREUR Replacement Depot at Zweibrucken, Germany. Later he was transferred to the 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment at Nurnberg, Germany. In 1955 he returned with elements of the 2nd Cavalry to Fort Meade, Maryland. In 1957 Sergeant Brewer was assigned United States Guided Missle and Artillery School at Fort Bliss, Texas, and served as an instructor of the electronics department.
In December of 1961 Sergeant Brewer was attached to the Personnel Staff of the 73rd Artillery, 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas. This assignment lasted until June of 1963. Orders were cut in July of 1963 which stationed Sergeant Brewer once again in Europe. This time he performed as a Personnel Staff NCO with the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Schiveinfurt, Germany, and as Chief NCO, Personnel Services Branch, DCSOERSM, HQ USAREUR, Heidelberg, Germany.
In 1966 when activation of the Fort Bragg Training Center seemed imminent, Sergeant Brewer was recalled to the post to serve as Personnel Sergeant and A.G. Sergeant Major with the U.S.A.T.C. He has served in that latter position until retirement finds him departing from the Army. Master Sergeant Brewer has been awarded the American Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5 awards), National Defense Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), World War II Victory Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Obituary

John Elmer Brewer, 42, of Rt. 8, Box 343, died Sunday night in a local hospital. He was a native of Apalachicola, but had resided in Pensacola for the past 22 years. He attended the Lutheran Church and was a retired master sergeant in the U.S. Army. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Bessie Brewer; two sons, James and John Brewer of Pensacola; four daughters, Lynda, Pamela, and Carol and Barbara Brewer, all of Pensacola; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Lee King of Pensacola; eight brothers, J.T. Brewer of Slidell, La., Tony Brewer of Raleigh, N.C., Wilbur King of Brewton, Ala., Ray King of Vietnam, Charles King of Crestview, and Tim and Woodrow King, both of Pensacola and Cecil King of Crestview. Funeral arrangements will be announced by McNeil Funeral Home.
