Doctor Bridwell opened a general merchandise stoe in Avoca. He also established the first post office there and acted as postmaster.
Dr. Bridwell bought the mill which was the first mill build at Avoca about 1819 by Fitzpatrick. The mill property was later owned by his nephew Hayden Bridwell.
