Biography

Joy Briggs Parsons was born June 18, 1930. ^[1]She graduated from Leavenworth Central School in Wolcott, N.Y., in June 1948. She then attended Canton State College in Canton, N.Y., graduating with a degree in dietary science in June 1950. She then went on to work at Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. Joy married the love of her life, Paul W. Parsons of Clyde, N.Y., on Feb. 1, 1958. They were happily married for 53 years. Joy and Paul lived in Liverpool, N.Y., from 1959 to 1976, at which time they were transferred to Chesapeake. Joy worked for Tidewater Community College in the Registrar's Office, retiring in 1992. Over the last 19 years, they spent their summers in Fair Haven, N.Y., with their many friends, especially the Sterling Silver Swingers. Joy loved butterflies, Tony Bennett, rides in the country, boating, reading and writing letters and spending time with her family. Her favorite saying was, "This too shall pass, honey." Joy is survived by her husband Paul; her two children; and four awesome grandchildren. Brian (Betsy) Parsons and their two children, Connor and Mollie, live in Chesapeake; Cindy (Billy) Sullivan of Hannibal, N.Y. and their two children, Cory and Kate. Joy also has two nieces, Donna (Matt) Collins of Wolcott, N.Y. and Vicki (George) Caligure of Homasassa, Fla. She had five grand-nieces and nephews. Joy passed away in Chesapeake on Sept. 1, 2011, knowing that her family loved her very much, and although we will miss her gentle smile, soft words and her quiet presence, we will hold her in our hearts forever.
