When James Wesley Bright was born on February 21, 1859, in Des Moines, Iowa, his father, James, was 26 and his mother, Jane, was 25. He married Almina Elmer on January 16, 1883, in McPherson, Kansas. They had six children in 22 years. He died on October 21, 1938, in Wallowa, Oregon, at the age of 79, and was buried in Lostine, Oregon.
