He was born about 1726. A baptism has not been found, but Samuel is knwon from his father, and a cousin's will. He is the son of Richard Bright and Martha Sutton.
His father Richard died in 1772, leaving a will as of "Richard Bright of Great Waltham, farmer", written 10 Jun 1771 and proved 21 Feb 1772. He bequeathed Richard the bulk and residue of his estate. [1]
In 1784 he received a bequest in the will of his cousin William Judd, an undertaker of Bishopsgate, London, left a will, the probate of which was proved 7 Dec 1784. [2]
To my cousin Richard Bright of Much Waltham £50 which he owes me.
To his brother Samuel Bright £10
To my dear wife's sister Susannah Hess the interest of £400 during her natural life. Then after her death the same to be divided between my three sons and Mr Robert Phipps.
To Mr and Mrs Bird, and Mr and Mrs Faro a gold ring each.
To the Rev John and Charles Wesley five guineas.

Proved by the oaths of the sons of the deceased, William Joseph and Thomas Judd 7th Dec 1784.
