Biography
James was born in 1793. His parents were Samuel Brisbine and Margaret English.
Marriage and Children
He was the second husband of Achsah Whitacre, the widow of Dr. Bracken, who he married in 1819. James and Achsah were the parents of six children:
- Albert Gallatin, b.1822, married Sarah Sophia Sherbourne
- Thornton. ,married Mary Unkefer
- Sarah Ann, married Nelson A. McConnell
- Phebe Elma, married Allen G. Simpkins
- Nancy L., married John Williams
- Mary Catharine, married William Williams

He passed away in 1871.
