Biography

Henry is supposed to have been born around 1760, possibly in Sowerby, Yorkshire[1]. On 03 Mar 1783 he and Martha Lee (known as Matty) were married by banns in Glossop, Derbyshire[2]. They had (at least) ten children:

  • David, bapt 1 Sep 1783[3]
  • Levi, bapt. 18 Jan 1785[4]
  • John, bapt. 12 Dec 1786[5]
  • Abraham, born 1788, bapt. 14 Jan 1789[6]
  • Betty, born 1790, bapt. 10 Jan 1791[7]
  • Luke, born 24 Dec 1791, bapt. 04 Jan 1792[8]
  • Sarah, bapt. 25 Feb 1795[9], died age 2y[10]
  • Joseph, bapt 16 Apr 1797[11]
  • Mally (Molly?), bapt 19 Mar 1800[12]
  • Mark, bapt. 14 Feb 1802[13]

According to the burial record for David[14], Henry was a cotton spinner.

Wife Martha died in 1841 at age 83 (suggesting a birth year of 1758).[15] This is a near match for a birth entry for Martha Lee, daughter of Thomas Lee, bapt. 19 May 1757 at Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, England.[16]

Henry died in the first quarter of 1843 at Hayfield, Derbyshire.[17]
