Biography
Robert Henry Broadist (or Broadiste, Broadest), later Broadhurst, was born in 1866 at Bampton in Oxfordshire. [1] [2] He was baptised at Bampton parish church on 13 January 1867, as the son of Rose Broadiste of Bampton, widow. [3] His mother's husband Edward had died some years earlier, perhaps in 1858.
In 1871, Robert Broadest was living at Church Lane at Weald in Oxfordshire with his widowed mother Rose and two brothers. His age was given as 5, implying a birth date in 1865 or 1866. His birthplace was given as Bampton, Oxfordshire. [4].
In 1881, Robert Broadist was living at 2 Water Street, Bridewell, in the Farringdon Without ward of the City of London with his mother Rose and step father David Lay. His age was given as 14, implying a birth date in 1866 or 1867. His birthplace was given as Bampton, Oxfordshire. [5].
In 1891, Robert Broadhurst was living at 37 Sugden Road in Battersea in London, with his wife and young daughter, both called Charlotte. His age was given as 24, implying a birth date in 1866 or 1867. His birthplace was given as Bampton, Oxfordshire. He was a foreman [2].
