Research Notes

In the 1880 census record, his mother, Beckie, is enumerated as divorced in the household of her father and her step-mother, with the name Beckie Brock, and a 10 year old son, named Johnie Brock.

Family researchers indicate that Rebecca and John may have changed their surname from Brock to Towns. A 1900 census record for Rebecca A Towns in Montgomery County indicates she is widowed and the mother of John Towns. Also living in the household are his wife, and a 1 year old daughter. Also in 1910 in Telfair County, she is named as Rebecca A Townes, living in the household of John M Townes, his wife and a daughter and a son.
