Biography

Boaz was born about 1737 and passed away after 1800. In 1766, a petition to the King of England from residents of Shaftsbury, Bennington and Pownal Vermont includes the names of Boaz and Phillip Brookins. From this petition it can be deduced that the petitioners identified themselves as purchasers of Vermont Grants from the New hampshire Governor, Benning Wentworth, for which the New York Governor was also demanding a prohibitive fee. As many of the residents of early Poultney had come from Pownal, it is likely the Brookins family was in Pownal at this earlier date. Ithamar Brookins (brother of Boaz) married Judith Morgan, whose family resided in Pownal. Adams-21565
