Biography

Birth

Charlotte was born in about 1833 at Aston in Oxfordshire ^[1] and baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Bampton, Oxfordshire on 17th March 1833. ^[2] She was the daughter of James Brookes and his wife Hannah. Her father stated on the register that he was a labourer and that the family were living in Aston at that time.

Marriage

Charles Monk and Charlotte Brooks were married after banns at St Nicholas and St Swithun, Yelford, Oxfordshire on 17th March 1856.^[3]. Charles was a bachelor, working as a labourer and living in Ducklington. He was the son of Charles Monk who was a carpenter. Charlotte was a spinster, working as a servant and living in Yelford. She was the daughter of James Brooks who was the parish clerk. The witnesses to the marriage were Edmund Dipper and Frances Holifield.^[4]

In 1861 she was living at Ducklington in Oxfordshire with her husband Charles and their other children. Her age was given as 28, implying a birth date in 1832 or 1833. Her birthplace was given as Aston, Oxfordshire. She was an agricultural labourer ^[1].

Charlotte Monk died at Ducklington on 7 February 1883 at the age of 50 ^{[5] [6]}.
